I am pleased to re-start my blogspace, The Way I See It, after a long hiatus.
This guest blog on the critical topic of the right to housing is very timely and important. Access to affordable and supportive housing to the poor and the unhoused is a global issue. Yet, governments appear to be more concerned about providing funds for building homes for ownership than about investing in affordable social housing for renters or supportive housing for the unhoused.
In the Fall Economic Statement released in November by Canada’s Finance Minister, Chrystia Freeland, for example, $15 Billion in loans was provided for home construction and only $1 Billion for building social housing.
As Stephen and Gautam say, access to housing is a health issue.
